 FAQS

WEDDINGS & eVENTS

Do you have a minimum starting price for weddings?

We suggest a good starting budget between $2,500 - $3,500 ( plus tax, delivery, and setup fees ). If you have a much lower budget for a few items only, please fill out our wedding form and tell us a bit more about what you are looking for.

What is the average price for a Bridal bouquet, Bridesmaids and Boutonnieres?

Our bouquets will vary in price between $350 - $550 for Bridals and $200-$300/per person for Bridesmaids. The sizes are standard De La Flore sizes ranging between Small 5”-12” to Large in width. Boutonnieres are $30 / person. Our prices include labor, our time designing, sourcing/picking out the best quality flowers, storing, and any other material needed.

Why do De La Flore bouquets only come in the sizes and prices listed above?

Here at De La Flore, we create a brand surrounding our design style. Which we keep consistently. We do not offer design styles that are different from our own which generate an array of prices. Our standard sizing for bouquets is specially made for our designs that will be custom-made for you.

Why are De La Flore's prices higher than other florists?

De La Flore operates as a floral studio and not as a shop which means we purchase flowers based on the needs of a wedding or event at a higher price. Since we do not have a shop, we do not purchase flowers from the Floral Auction ( UFG), where flowers are auctioned off at their lowest cost. We buy from wholesale suppliers already selling their products at a retail-wholesale price for businesses. Flowers are sold by an amount per stem and would need to be purchased as a bunch. This would apply to all local and international blooms, minus greenery.

Why do you buy from the wholesale and not the auction?

We do not benefit from the floral auction as you would need to purchase an enormous quantity of flowers ( by the bucket ) to shop. This benefits shop owners a lot better to fill their stock. Since we are a wedding & event florist only, wholesale and local direct growers are a better option for us where we can shop in smaller quantities but with a higher price range.

What else makes your prices higher?

De La Flore performs on the quality of products, and by visiting wholesalers or direct growers in person. We make sure the right blooms are selected and products hold up to our quality standards. We also work with eco-friendly supplies at a higher cost than the average commercial products and work with as many locally grown blooms as possible. Local blooms also sit at a higher cost than most international blooms.

Considering all this, we also take our time planning, designing, and executing quality goods. We process each flower individually, carefully storing them, and replacing any blooms that do not hold up to our standards. We are at your service from the time you book until your big day. We also hire local freelance florists for bigger weddings/events and properly compensate for their talent, time, and hard work.

What other services do you provide for weddings/events?

We provide 2 free consultations and venue visits - With a small venue visit fee for our time.

Do you provide delivery, setups, and take-downs?

Yes! Delivery depends on the city, how much we are transporting, and our time. We charge a service fee of 25% for setting up and a starting fee of $350 + for Takedowns - This may vary per event depending on location, time, or if extra hands are needed.

Are vases included with the wedding/event order?

Vases can be included or rented out by us. We specify the type of vase that works with our style. Your vases are welcome as long as they follow our specific guidelines to go with the arrangements. We include vases with all our bouquet orders so that the bouquets can be repurposed on the head tables and remain in the water for the rest of the day. We do not offer a discount if you bring your vases for either arrangements or bouquets.

How far in advance do I need to consult with you to book?

We appreciate a sufficient advance timeline starting at 6 months to a year if possible for bigger weddings or events. Minimum 5 months for elopements.  If inquiring a month or week before your wedding. We may not be able to accommodate or take your order in at all. There may be some exceptions depending on the type of event. Rushed orders may also be subject to additional charges.

What is the booking process like with you?

After sending an inquiry, we will get in touch with you and create a draft quote which will be sent over to you through an online document called SignEasy. You will then be able to set up a free consultation with us based on your availability, where we can meet, go over your drafted quote, and change any details.

Once approving your quote, the contract will need to be signed. We will then send an invoice of the total and a non-refundable deposit of 50%. Which would need to be paid at the time of signing the contract to hold your wedding date. Final payments will then be due 1 month before your wedding date. Any changes to your floral wedding order can be made anytime before the final payment is due.

How many consultations can I have with you?

We offer 2 free consultations. The first is for the drafted initial quote and the second 2 months before your final payment. We advise a second consultation if your wedding date is 1-2 years away, to make sure nothing has changed during that lengthy timeline. Consultations can still be booked with us outside of our 2 free consultations at a fee of $150 / consultation for our time.

If my wedding plans change, can I keep changing my quote?

Changes are possible after signing the contract, add-ons are always welcome. Changes will occur, especially for a wedding date 1-2 years away. Unless you are 100% positive about your vision and your ideas. We offer 1 free re-written quote, not including the first initial quote that was already sent out as a draft. After the first rewritten quote any rewrites start at $150 for our time to re-compose a whole new quote with any added details. Quick add-ons will not count. ( This cost cannot be used towards your wedding. This is a separate add-on cost. )

**We had to make new updates regarding consultations and re-writing quotes as they tend to take a lot of time to perfect new changes and details for clients. In the past, we have had clients abuse our time with too many changes/ideas and it took a huge portion of our time away from other clients and other potential opportunities. We love to do as much as we can for everyone but our time is very valuable and important which needs to be cherished when creating a new quote or idea, not to mention trusting your florist on the idea you already have going.

If I decide to completely change my whole quote from a huge wedding to only a few items is there a penalty for the work already done?

We understand that changes happen especially when going over your budget and what feels right for you. The financial stress is real and we get it. However, please remember that the work we do with quoting is not easy. We put much energy, time, and thought into each quote. This process is what takes up the longest with no real compensation for it whether you decide to book with us or not. Please make sure to budget your floral plans before inquiring so that we can work with your budget accordingly.

As for the penalty, if you decide to change your plans from a bigger budget wedding to a smaller budget wedding, we will need to be compensated for the work already provided in quoting which would be a re-written administration fee of $200 for our time as fair compensation.

If my wedding plans change, after paying my deposit from a bigger wedding budget to a smaller wedding budget would there still be a penalty for it and could I use my deposit to cover the costs?

As mentioned in the last question, changes like this could happen and again we understand the stress of change. However, once you pay your deposit at whatever 50% may sit, it becomes a nonrefundable payment. The changes that are made will reflect your final total only. You can still use your deposit but if the changes sit lower than the deposit the remaining deposit will not be refunded. If the changes sit higher than your deposit then the remaining balance will need to be paid. There will also be a penalty of a re-written administration fee of $200 on booked weddings on top of our time making changes to your quote as part of our compensation.

Do you offer refunds for weddings/events?

We have in the past offered refunds under critical circumstances such as with COVID-19 (due to the sudden cancellation of weddings at no fault of the client. Moving forward, however, we will not be refunding any weddings or events, even during COVID-19, as clients are more aware of the risks involved with planning a wedding during COVID-19 and the cancellations that could happen. We would only offer a refund if De La Flore is the canceling party.

If my family wants to arrange my flowers, can I purchase just the flowers from you in bunches?

No! We are not a shop or a wholesale. As floral artists, we honor being part of weddings and events where we can use our talent and our skills. Our work is also our livelihood; therefore, we rely on our clients to trust us with our design skills and knowledge.

If I decide to have you arrange some of the flowers and have another party/vendor, friend or family arrange some of the other items would that be ok?

No! We are a small wedding/event business, by not allowing us to create your whole wedding or event you are not supporting our business and taking work away from us. Our style is also very distinctive and our work relies on our creditability to ensure consistency throughout all the designs. This will be mentioned in our contract.

Would you travel for a wedding or event?

De La Flore would be honored to accompany clients to their destination weddings to provide our services. We would secure all of our planning with your venue and day of coordinator promptly. As well as sourcing local flowers at markets, wholesalers, and or farmers in advance. All accommodations would need to be provided by the clients, including plane tickets, and work visas/permits. Please email us to inquire to discuss prices.

FAQ - General:

Where do you buy your flowers from?

We purchase our flowers from United Floral, and Florist Supply - Wholesalers in Vancouver, BC. We also purchase flowers from local growers in the lower mainland, Vancouver, the BC region ( when available), and down the Pacific West Coast, like California.

Do you only work with local flowers or do you also use international flowers?

We try to work with as many local floral products grown in BC. Other times we may venture out and buy flowers along the Pacific West Coast down to California.

Which BC local growers do you buy from?

We usually look for local growers and farmers at United Floral and Floral Supply Wholesalers, but we also try and get in touch with direct farmers. Here are some of the growers we buy from or stay in contact with:

The Front Yard Flower Co, Erosa Farms, Quik’s Farm Ltd, Earth Candy Farms, River and Sea Flowers, Hawaiian Botanicals, Forest Gold Products Ltd. - We also buy from our wholesalers from local growers all over the mainland. We also do a lot of foraging in our backyards, looking for the right branches, and bud flowers.

What eco-friendly products do you use?

We use the following: fresh moss, frog pins, chicken wire, biodegradable vases, recyclable glass vases, metal containers, and many recyclable plastic or paper containers. We also use recyclable plastic/rubber water tubes, wooden boxes, recycled paper boxes, and plant-based containers. We are always innovating eco-friendly ideas when designing bigger-scale installations, and find inspiration from others. We re-use, and recycle, as much as we can from everything that comes into our studio to everything that leaves our studio. Making it easy for others to recycle and reuse what we give out.

Do you use floral foam? I hear floral foam is bad for the environment, is that true?

We 110% do not use floral foam in any of our designs. Floral foam is highly toxic to the environment, animals, and humans. Made out of chemical compounds such as formaldehyde, barium sulfates, and carbon black. Prolonged use of this product can cause cancer. Other side effects can cause eye, skin, and respiratory tract irritation. The micro-plastic particles associated with floral foam make their way into our oceans, and our water supply system, resulting in contamination and consumption. Recent studies in 2020 have discovered that they are finding these microplastics in pregnant women and in our ocean’s microorganisms. Please ask your local florist not to use this product in your wedding, event, or day orders and to find other alternatives to create your floral arrangements in a healthy, environmentally friendly way.

I love the look of unnatural floral colours. Do you use dyed, tinted, and bleached flowers?

We do not use unnatural colour blooms. Unfortunately, this trend has become a popular idea/item. Tinted, dyed, and bleached products are full of chemicals and leeches out into our water system and natural environment. You can not compost these items and would need to go into our landfills. At times, the chemicals on these florals shed an overpowering smell as well as the tinted flowers may transfer onto your clothing and skin.

Can I purchase a small fresh order bouquet or arrangements from you?

We do not offer fresh order bouquets or arrangements at this time, as we do not have a storefront or operate as a shop. However, for any major holidays like Valentine’s or Mother’s Day, we may be adding fresh flower arrangements to sell online, but not guaranteed.

Is your studio also a walk-in shop?

Unfortunately, not at the moment. We are strictly studio and online space only. Hopefully, sometime in the future, we may have the opportunity to have a small walk-in shop.

Can I come to visit your studio?

Only a handful of clients and vendors have been lucky to visit our studio. At the moment we are not allowing studio visits due to covid. But also because our space is quite small and private. Hopefully, if you are lucky one day you may get a sneak peek of our space in person.

WORKSHOPS

What kind of workshops do you offer?

Mostly holiday workshops during the fall and winter seasons. But on certain occasions, we may host workshops for Valentine's day, Mother's day, or an ordinary mid-summer day.

Where can I get an early notification for your workshops?

Subscribe to our newsletter on our contact page to receive upcoming workshops ahead of time.

Do you offer refunds for your workshops?

We do not offer refunds for our workshops as we count out material for each student participating. We would, however, be able to offer you a credit for the next workshop we host.

Do you ever host workshops 1:1?

We can host a private workshop 1:1 for a higher cost than a group workshop, which would cover our time, space, material, and flowers.

Do you ever offer online/virtual workshops?

We do not offer this option to our students as we like to create an experience in person on designing. This is especially essential when students do not have basic knowledge of floral design. We have seen students overwhelmed with their first classes and we value taking our time teaching, making everyone feel comfortable, and most of all excited to be with us. We would provide all of the materials necessary as well as fun refreshments, and personalized photos.
